For too long, Highway 97 has stood as a formidable barrier, dividing our city into two distinct sides. This physical separation has shaped development and commerce and limited connectivity between east and west.
Energized by the pulse of downtown Bend, the west side has flourished, leaving the east side in its shadow.
But change is on the horizon. Pedestrian crossings at Franklin, Greenwood, and Hawthorne will bridge this divide, allowing the vibrancy of downtown to flow freely eastward and fostering development and commerce on both sides of the highway.
At the heart of this transformation is the Hawthorne Overcrossing, which will serve as a vital link between east and west Bend, symbolizing a new era of connectivity and growth.
The Midtown Crossings will allow the energy that defines downtown Bend to invigorate the east side as well, catalyzing development, promoting commerce, and creating a more cohesive city.
Planned improvements on 2nd Street will create a newly energized corridor, paving the way for business and residential expansion at the eastern terminus of the Hawthorne Overcrossing.
The Catalyst, a dynamic community hub, will anchor this new corridor of activity, driving the BCD's transformation and forming the starting point for an eastside complement to downtown Bend.
Anchored by a bustling downtown and revitalized BCD, the future of Bend will be shaped by a unified corridor of economic energy that will result in a vibrant and connected urban landscape.
